  • Discussion about Students with Learning Differences

    A team here at the University of Chicago is developing an online tool for supporting parents, teachers, and schools working to help kids with learning differences (specifically, autism, ADHD and dyslexia) learn elementary mathematics. This team would like to chat with interested teachers about what features they would like to see in such a tool and how they might use it.

    If you are interested in talking with this team, please sign up, and the team will contact you shortly to schedule a conversation. Teachers in Newark and New York, please reply as soon as possible as the team will be in the area early next week.

    Professional Development Leader Academy (PDLA) Level 1

    The School Support Services team at UChicago STEM Education will host a PDLA Level 1 on June 25-27, 2018. The Level 1 Professional Development Leadership Academy will support school and district math leaders in preparing to deliver beginner professional development for the fourth edition of Everyday Mathematics. Participants will hear from authors about foundational ideas in Everyday Mathematics 4, explore and discuss professional development techniques and resources, and become familiar with the Everyday Mathematics 4 Initial Training Modules.     Mathematics Coaching Academy Level 1

    The School Support Services team at UChicago STEM Education will host a Coaching Academy June 28 and 29, 2018. The Coaching Academy will support school and district math leaders in developing coaching capacity around high-quality teaching and learning of mathematics. It will also focus on how to develop and support leadership structures that promote high-quality mathematics classroom teaching and learning that aligns with your district vision for mathematics and the CCSS-M.     Teacher Learning Lab

    This summer, the School Support Services team at UChicago STEM Education will host a Teacher Learning Lab on July 23-27, 2018. The Teacher Learning Lab aims to develop teacher’s understanding of relevant K-8 mathematical content, the Standards for Mathematical Practice, Growth Mindset Beliefs, and teaching practices featured during classroom observations. This intensive professional development experience combines real-time observations in laboratory classrooms, planning discussions with host teachers, and engaging professional development sessions facilitated by UChicago STEM Education staff focused on how students learn mathematics. Daily reflection opportunities will help teachers consolidate their learning and consider implications for their own classrooms.
